Executive Director

Job Overview:

The Board of Directors, lead by the President will delegate the overall responsibility and authority of the Director.  The Director’s general responsibilities will include but are not limited to leading and overseeing all aspects of the chamber’s operations and activities consistent with the chamber’s mission. This includes planning, implementing program of work, program development & implementation, membership engagement, management and programs, marketing, promotions, financial management, advocacy and community outreach. The role requires a dynamic leader who can collaborate with local businesses, government officials, and community stakeholders to promote economic growth and enhance the overall business environment within the county.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic and Organization Management:
    • Work with the Board of Directors to develop and implement Program of work and long-term strategic plans in alignment with the chamber’s mission and goals of the Board of Directors.
    • Identify opportunities for economic development and business growth within the community.
    • Evaluation overall recommendations from the Board, Committees and consultants and make recommendations to the board for implementation.
    • Responsible for implementing policies and procedures approved by the Board of Directors.
    • Coordinate monthly board meetings with the President. Prepare agenda, minutes, financials and other documents for meetings.  Coordinate with committee chairs for planning meetings, document activities and plans for these meetings and assist as needed. 
    • Manage ongoing functions of the chamber, volunteers, employees and other designated individuals and delegating duties appropriately.
  2. Membership Engagement:
    • Recruit new members and retain chamber members, ensuring a diverse and engaged membership base.
    • Develop and implement programs and services that add value to chamber members. Make recommended changes to the Board of Directors
    • Maintain membership list and directory
    • Manage payment of Memberships, billing procedures and collections practices.
    • Focus efforts on projects with an emphasis on involving members, including networking functions, workshops, marketing, promotion, retail and special events to help support and promote members.
  3. Financial Management:
    • Responsible for financial management of all funds appropriated to the chamber from various sources.
    • With assistance from the Board, Develop and Oversee the chamber’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability and responsible resource allocation.
    • Seek and secure funding through county, city, lodgers tax board, sponsorships, grants, and partnerships.
    • Make sure expenditures are not exceeding available funds
  4. Community Outreach:
    • Maintain visibility as the main representative of the Chamber and Visitor Center.
    • Establish and maintain working relationships with City Manger and City Commission, County Manager and County Commission, Greater Tucumcari EDC, Mesalands Community College, Tucumcari Mainstreet and local museums.
    • Establish and maintain positive relationships with local businesses and community organizations.
    • Act as a spokesperson for the chamber, promoting its initiatives and advocating for the business community.
    • Represent the chamber, visitor center and committees needed to meet goals and objectives of the organization.
  5. Fundraising and Event Planning:
    • Work with EVENT/FUNDRAISING Chair to Organize and execute various fundraising, community and outreach events including the annual membership meeting (banquet).
    • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to ensure the successful implementation of events.
  6. Advocacy & RT 66 Centennial:
    • Advocate for the interests of the local business community at the local, regional, and state levels.
    • Monitor and stay informed about relevant legislative and regulatory issues affecting businesses.
    • Work with local committee, Rt 66 Association and State Centennial Committee to assist with planning and implementation of 2026 Route 66 Centennial Celebration.
  7. Marketing and Communication:
    • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the chamber and its members.
    • Maintain effective communication channels, including newsletters, social media, and other outlets like Radio, newspaper and TV.
    • Work Elliott Marketing to keep the chamber website, membership, activities and events updated.
    • Develop and recommend promotional opportunities for Visitor Center.
    • Keep merchandise stocked for the Visitor Center and make recommendations for items that could be purchased to sell in the visitor center.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business administration, public administration, management, marketing, public relations, organization/nonprofit management or a related field.  
  • Proven experience in a leadership role, preferably in a chamber of commerce, nonprofit or similar organization.
  • Strong understanding of business and economic development principles.
  • Excellent communication, networking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and secure funding.
  • Proficient in strategic planning and implementation.
  • Familiarity with local government and regulatory processes.
  • Experience in event planning and execution.
  • Knowledge of marketing and communication strategies.
